We had the pleasure of having the gorgeous gal ‘The Style Fairy’ in to the salon . Read her blog below about her experience having her gold fever extensions.
My new set of gold fever hair extensions
Hey ladies,
So, if you already follow me on Snapchat (username: thestylefairy) you’ll know the bob is gone!!! And I have lovely, full, thick, wavy hair again thanks to Di Milo Hair Design.
After Anabelle Ivy arrived, I decided I needed a new look, I think it’s something almost all us women go through, so I decided to ditch the long hair and go for a bob using only a few Gold Fever hair extensions to give me the volume that my own hair so badly lacks. See the blog post on that here.
Post Pregnancy Hair Loss & Why I needed a change
Fast forward 6 months and I was bored and desperately missing my longer locks! I thought that by getting the bob it would be easier maintained and god was I wrong – in fact the opposite was true, the shorter hair took way more styling and I missed being able to throw it up in a pony tail. The sharp bob cut that I had, always needed to be properly blow dried and straightened to look right, it started to drive me mad and as a mammy you just don’t have to time for that!
Coupled with that, I also suffered with massive hair loss and hair thinning post pregnancy. This is something I have spoken very openly about on Snapchat, it has really affected my confidence. Postpartum hair loss is extremely common and happens because after you give birth, your estrogen levels take a tumble and a lot more hair follicles enter the resting stage and thus start to fall out. It really is horrible and so cruel, as if our bodies haven’t gone through enough already!
I don’t take many selfies but this pic kind of shows the thinning and loss around my crown.
Anyway, it was one of my other main reasons for wanting fuller, thicker, longer hair again. I was feeling really self conscious and I suppose given the business I am in and I have to do photo shoots etc, I became really critical of myself and just needed to do something about it.
My own hair will grow back and in the mean time I am taking a herbal supplement called Silica to help aid my hair growth. Michelle in Di Milo Hair Design also really recommends a good multi vitamin and is an advocate of Nioxin hair products ( I haven’t used so I can’t personally recommend, but she strongly recommends them).
Where did I go?
Step in Di Milo Hair Design, wow are these guys good. I had read up about them and seen they had won several awards including ‘Best Hair Salon’ at the 2015 Image Beauty Awards so I knew I was in good hands. The director Jean is a complete lady and totally understood how I felt, she put me in the capable hands of her hair extension “queen” Michelle and my transformation began.
The first step was a colour consultation to match my own hair to the hair extensions, I had Gold Fever hair extensions several times in the past and I knew I wanted to go for them again, I honestly think you can’t get any better. They last SO long, are so so natural looking, the bonds are tiny, the maintenance is easy (I find), and I just knew they were what I wanted again. If you decide to invest in hair extensions, I think you really are best opting for the best out there and in my opinion, that’s Gold Fever. To read a full FAQ on Gold Fever Hair see HERE (All the commonly asked questions are in there like; maintenance, price, how long they last, getting a consultation, styling them etc etc)
After my colour consultation to pick the right shades for my hair and to assess my hair (Di Milo do FREE consultations for this by the way just call them on 01 2180872). I came back two weeks later and on the same day had my old extensions removed (I only had a few in) and had my new full head of 14 inch extensions applied.
Does it take long?
Oh yes, it is a long process (allow at leat 3 hours for a full head) and mine was a particularly long process on this occasion because this time I was having a full head applied, and Michelle was working with a bob so I needed a lot of extensions applied to fill out my hair to make sure it looked natural.
My colour was matched perfectly, as well as having some highlights in my hair and some balyage, my own natural hair has lots of shades in it, so I wanted to keep this look so different shades of Gold Fever extensions were blended together to get the look I wanted.
As we move more towards winter, I’m thinking I might opt for rich, warm all over brown. That’s what I love about Gold Fever Hair Extensions, I have that option of colouring them if I want to.
The process
Michelle is a complete perfectionist, every bond was applied with total precision, she, as she said herself, totally goes into a ‘zone’ when applying hair exertions as it needs serious concentration. I am thrilled with the result! They can feel quite heavy at first, but you get used to that after a day or so. The bonds are really tiny, again they can feel strange at first but after a few days you forget they are there.
After the hair extensions were applied, Michelle then cut and layered my hair so that it blended in with my own hair. She then washed and blow dried my hair and finished the look with some loose curls using a GHD.
Finished result & Maintenance
I have only had them in two weeks and already the difference in the ease of maintenance versus my shorter hair is unreal; so so much easier to manage. And the big difference is fullness – I love it. Even though yes, I have thinning around the crown of my head (obviously you don’t put extensions in there), I feel happier in my look because of the overall volume and fullness. Plus it looks 100 times nicer now when thrown up in a ponytail.
The better you care for your extensions the longer they will last – be sure to use a sulphate free shampoo (I use Kerastase) and regularly brush them through well to avoid any matting. They can be dried, styled, straightened and curled just like normal hair. What I love about them is if you curl them the extensions hold it so so well so (as manky and lazy as this might sound) you get so long out of a good curly blow dry. As even when the curls drop, the extensions really suit that loose, wavy look and it’s the look I personally love myself.
This time I went for only 14 inch extensions, previously I have had longer but I love this current length!
I can’t thank Di Milo Hair Design enough for doing such an amazing job and helping me feel more confident in myself. I highly recommend them! The salon itself is trendy and cool and the staff are all just so so pleasant. Be sure to give them a follow on Instagram and Facebook – Their pages are packed full of gorgeous hair inspiration and real life client transformations; brilliant for hair inspo and ideas. Hope you enjoyed :-)
